Exercising Tips and Ideas for Rottweilers

Your Rottweiler is bored and running circles around you. As a responsible dog owner you are most-likely seeking ways to provide exercise and fun for your beloved Rottweiler. Providing your dog with plenty of fun activities that allows him or her to exercise on a daily basis will help maintain their weight and prevent illnesses related to weight gain. The next time your Rottweiler is full of energy try the ideas and tips below.

·        Walking – Taking your Rottweiler for a long walk will do wonders for his or her energy level. It will allow them to spend time with you as well as get exercise. Why not make it more interesting by taking your dog for a walk in a different direction or area than usual. Inviting your dog on a hike or run is also an excellent way for both of you to exercise.

·        Laser Pointer –This is an excellent idea for those day or nights that you are exhausted from a long day at work and don’t feel like going for a walk with your dog. Get out your trusty laser pointer and allow your Rottweiler to chase it for a while until he or she is bored or has had enough exercise for the day. This is not an activity that you will want to do on a regular basis since your dog may continue looking for the laser pointer long after the game is over. However, it is a great exercise idea to use on occasion.

·        Frozen Bottle – Make your Rottweiler a summer time toy by filling an empty bottle with water and placing it in the freezer. When it is a hot summer day take the bottle and your Rottweiler outside and allow him or her to lick and play with the bottle. This is a great way to keep your dog cool on those hot summer days as well as provide exercise since he or she will most-likely push it all around the yard.

·        Play Fetch –This popular game is a great way to involve yourself with exercise time. Your Rottweiler will be doing most of the work by running and getting the object and bringing it back to you. It is a great way to play and bond with your dog.

·        Obstacle Course –You don’t have to professionally enter your Rottweiler in agility course contests to have an obstacle course. Use objects that are safe for your dog that are lying around your yard or home. Create a fun obstacle course and train your dog to go through it successfully. A fun addition is to hide healthy snacks throughout the course and allow your dog to locate them on his or her own.

Daily exercise is essential to your Rottweiler’s well-being and health. Remember to provide a variety of exercise activities to make life more interesting and fun for your dog. Also consider involving yourself in the activities as much as you can so you can build a stronger bond with your dog. Soon you will find that your Rottweiler has become your best workout buddy that encourages you to exercise as well.
