Max is 54 pounds now. The vet said he looks real good and is very healthy. He gave me some chats to look at.He said I can look at these and try and keep Max looking like a #4. That just means keep his weight down. He does not want to see him over weight. He says people that own rotts don't keep a good eye on the way they look. He said people always think the bigger the dog gets....the better off he/she will be. Not the case. Keep them in check and they will live a long time.

Yea,I swear when he was talking to me it was like you..Dan and Donna were right there in the room LOL. I was like....doc,I know all of this. He says,"that's what all rott owners think" He talked me into having the chip put in as well. It's only 53 dollars and has a lot of advantages. He also wants to neuter Max. I'm not to sure about that. Max is turning out to be a really good dog. What if I want another one like him? Think I'm gonna pass on that one. I know you guys would agree with the vet but I don't.

It would be better in the long run if he is neutered young. Here goes!!

You might want to breed him so some day you can have one just like him, well when breeding you are not getting the parents but the grandparents. So breeding him for that reason would take years. There are 4 grand parents and alot of genes to play around with and even us that do all the studing of who's producing what stiil are not sure what we are going to get when it is all said and done.

Plus if you stud him out for a puppy what about all the others he will produce?are you going to make sure thy too are in great homes and not tied up in someones back yard?

By the time you want a new one I'm sure there will be plenty to choose from.

You will want to keep in mind that rotts are susceptible to to various cancers, and not neutering him only increases his chances. Are you going to be willing to take that chance with your rott you love so MAYBE you will have a puppy whos personality is similar to his in exchange for his health? Think how you would feel if he got cancer later on...I wish you luck, and hope things go well.</BLOCKQUOTE>

Well instead of taking it away, you can just get them sniped. At least that way there will be no unwanted off spring.Like if he falls in love with the neibors Beagle
