I’m sorry to say this morning I found my beautiful big boy Chewy Dead from unknown causes, the vet thinks it was a snake bite as I live on a rural property in Australia. I am completely devastated and heartbroken 😭

Oy my!! That is heartbreaking news. 
How old was Chewy?? Did the vet ever bring up the idea of SAS?? This is a heart problem that Rottweilers can have, and often die a sudden death. Subaortic stenosis is common in the breed and why it's so important that anyone using breeding stock to have their dogs cleared of this awful disease...so it does not get passed on to their pups.
I'm so sorry about Chewy's death. RIP Chewy.

Thank you for your comment, Chewy would have been 18mths old today, no the vet never told me about SAS, but I have been doing some research and after doing some reading have come to the conclusion that his signs seem to fit more with a heart failure, as he looked like he had been sleeping and passed away, and he didn’t bark like there was a snake around or anything else around, there was no vomiting or anything else, he was just gone, he hadn’t shown any signs of anything wrong at all in the past, so it came as a complete shockOy my!! That is heartbreaking news.
I'm so sorry about Chewy's death. RIP Chewy.

He was so young!!!! Still very much a pup. Did his sire and dam have their hearts certified by a cardiologist vet?? If you ever plan on getting another Rottweiler please make sure you buy from an ethical breeder that is doing all of the health certs on their breeding dogs. SAS is a heartbreaking condition....one day they look perfectly fine...and then the next day they die suddenly.

Thank you, they were registered breeders in Australia, they had the vaccination and vet checks for the pups and the parents, but I didn’t know about the heart condition so didn’t check for that individually, if I ever decide to get another dog I will definitely be checking for itHe was so young!!!! Still very much a pup.
Once again, I am so sorry about Chewy.

What a horrible shock. I can't imagine your grief. My sympathies over this loss. Life just isn't fair.

Thank you, life isn’t fair at all, he was still a baby and no signs at all, strong and happy one day gone the next, my heart is shattered and the pain is so deep

I'm so terribly sorry to hear what happened to your beautiful boy, I can only imagine the shock and grief you're feeling. There seems to be more snakes out and about in Australia over the latest spring/summer than I can ever remember. I live in a reasonably dense average neighbourhood...and have even had a snake in my small backyard a couple of months back. Please take care. RIP Chewy.

Thank you for your condolences, looking closer at things his appearance and lack of alerting us to anything wrong indicates he might have had heart failure in his sleep, and just didn’t present with any noticeable symptoms before hand

Thank you, Chewy was given lots of love and attention every day, and he gave it back tenfold, he truly was an incredible dog who was loved by everyone 💕 he was the best dog I have ever had and I miss him terribly 😭😭😭

Sorry for your loss. I just loss my Sophi to cancer. Their presence is so thick. I sense her all around the house. My condolences.

Thank you for your condolences, I’m sorry for your loss. 😔 The worst place for me is every time I get in my Triton Ute, and my caravan, he used to go travelling with me everywhere 💔

Thank you for your kind words, Chewy was short for Chewbacca, but if you asked my 17yr old daughter she would tell you he was her Chewbie, it’s amazing how we can all have our own special connection and special names for our fur babies and they understand all of them 💕

Thank you for your well wishes, Chewy and I made the most of every day together, and we truly loved our travels together, I have many treasures we collected along the way in my garden pots to remember our journey’s together, every stop we made instead of buying things chewy would sniff out a special rock or interesting piece of bark or twig, maybe a feather, some shells at the beach, and I would add it to my plant pots or garden when we got home, life should always be about the memories we make with the ones we love 💕
