Welcome to the forums! I'm so sorry to hear about Lola. I have never dealt with this disease....but my Rottweiler Baxter did develop immune problems at the age of 5. He started out with lumps on his ears that looked like bug bites...they continues to pop up on his nose and his head. The vet did a punch biopsy on some if his lumps and after waiting quite awhile the lab results came back as a skin immunity problem (too many years ago to remember the exact wording). Instead of attacking his joints like your dog...his system was attacking his skin.

The vet first tried cyclosporine on him in a pill form. Very expensive for a big dog!! I think about $200. a month 8 years ago...and it really did not make a difference. Then the vet put him on prednisone.....cheap and it worked!!! He had to go pee often, and wanted to drink, drink, drink....and was SO hungry!! He was on prednisone for a few months...when we gradually weaned him down the amount and finally right off the prednisone. His problem never came back and he lived to almost 12 years of age.

I hope the prednisone helps Lola and that she will stay healthy.

Fingers crossed that the Atopica keeps on working for Lola. Hope she is 100% soon.
