More biting problems

I have a wonderful and sweet 2 year old Rott Named Magnus. He is a great dog, but he has issues with strangers. He recently bit a teaching companion of my father's. He did not break skin, but this behavior worries me, as my parents often have "strangers" come to the house. He has growled at many of them, and I am afraid of him biting any children in the neighborhood. Can I get him to stop, or is he too old? He is a shelter dog, so this may be a previous learned behavior.

Do you have a training club in your area?If so descuss the issue with them and see if anyone there will help you.Maybe he was never socialized when he was young. It will take allot of work to try and get him past this.If it was abuse then he might never get passed. It will be a hard dission on your part to make.

I just put down a 3 year old dog that I bred. The people that owned her never took bones away from her.I got her back(they lost their house and could not keep her)She went after me three times.I could never place her or trust her I put her down on her third birthday. It was very hard as she was the sweetest dog,but it had to be done to insure her and my safety.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the tip, but I do not have a lot of money, and was kind of looking for some advice I could use at home. I definitely don't want magnus to end up where your poor dog did. I will see if i can't find some free advice around Salt Lake( where I live)
If he is haveing problems with strangers then he needs to get out and meet other people in a controled situation. These are big and powerful dogs with out control.

Do not try to fix this your self,Try to find anyone who knows about dogs and can help.

ihave the same issue, i have a 2 year old rott who was also a shelter dog.we took him to training and the trainer grabbed him by his neck and bubba (my rott) TURNED AROUND,BIT HER, but did not break skin.
we thought it was because of that, we quit training and my dads friend came over, bubba bit him. we did not know why ...............didnt break skin.moms friend came over she was pettin' him on his neck and bubba growled, bit her. but for some reason he just never broke skin. my mom and dad were fed up with this! i was but i loved him. we ended up taking him back to animal shelteer. we got him back the next day, my b-day. got to go c ya
