I see a lot of chatter out here about if the dog is 160Lb he's fat or unhealthy, which is absolutely not the case with our dog. He's the most wonderful family member. my Wife is his Mommy so he will protect her, our Grandson and Daughter with his life. When our grandson swims regardless if you had a piece of Steak Tyson goes to work circling the pool making sure he's ok. Greatest purchase ever, we love him so much!

Welcome to the forums!!! How about a side view of Tyson?? Does he have a tuck up? Take a picture of him standing beside a person or a doorway. Honestly, he does not look like a 160 lb dog. His head is big, but I would highly doubt that he he weighs that much. How tall is he at the withers? Most people really don't guesstimate how big their dog is. I would like to see how much he weighs on your vet's scales.
If he does weigh 160 lbs that is not good!!! Please get some weight off of him. Rottweilers are so susceptible to torn ACL's and elbow and hip dysplasia....as well as other health ailments. This breed is not supposed to be a giant breed...and bigger is not better for them. A slimmer dog will live longer.

Tyson is 160 weighed by his Vet. Thats his Grandpa Bruno, who sold for $68,000 at 8 weeks old, incredible champion. We give him the weight adjusted dog food for slimming, he's never had human food, never begs, works daily. My first post and I feel like I'm being called out? We cant do anything about his size other than feed him healthy food and work him. He looks exactly like a 160lb dog because he is and everyone that sees him is astonished. He's absolutely a

I'm sorry that you feel that you have been called out. This is something that Rottweiler owners hear all the time about the "160 lb Rottweiler". He does look overweight,and he does look like he is big. I have been around this breed for most of my life and I have yet to meet a 160 lb Rottweiler that is not overweight or grossly out of standard. What is his pedigree??? I will ask fellow Rottweiler breeders about a puppy that sold for $68,000. This must be a tall tale that gets passed around?
The best puppies stay in Germany and do not sell for that much. I can look up Bruno's Championship on the record books.

Ive seen so many variations in the breed of recent years. Its what line you go for. In serbia they brees lines like mastiffs in some places that are 150lbs plus. You can also get some that are very small. My last male was 75lbs. So you get both extremes and anything inbetween, as well as overwight/underweight/byb etc. My male i have now is ADRK line which are very strict on their standards and perserve the breed to strict criteria. All dogs are fully health tested including heart and eyes. All dogs in line are titled bh, ch, ztp multi v rated etc and as for weight again, they are all within standard. Its what you prefer and are looking for. The breeding has been varied so much in recent decades there seems to be no "one size fits all"
Tyson looks great, your description of his behaviour is why we all love Rottis. Nothing better than sitting in your favourite chair and putting your hand down knowing your loving boy will be there. That's why we are on our fifth, they just don't live long enough.

How big and how much does your in standard ADRK well bred Rottweiler weigh?? The OP says that his dog is a"German Rottweiler" which means that he comes from ADRK breeding. The standards are very strict with these breeding...the dogs are measured and they also much be titled. Again the OP claims that the sire of his dog is 165 lbs and a Champion. I again think this is what he has been told by some BYB breeder. I agree Serbia breeds as do some of the Eastern block countries some very large looking Mastiff, wet looking dogs. These dogs are not in the standard for the breed.
The standard for the Rottweiler breed ( a well bred Rottweiler) is very close for the ADRK, as well as AKC as well as CKC. Dogs don't show up at Seiger or club sanctioned shows weighing 75 lbs or 150 lbs....they would be laughed off the show grounds.
Everyone should love and train and enjoy their Rottweiler....but perpetuating the myth that a well bred Rottweiler is 160 lbs is nonsense. I was involved with Rottweiler Rescue for many years...and believe me, I saw all sorts of size and shapes of this breed....they 99.9% of the time were BYB breeding.
I didnt say mine was "well bred" but i do think adrk is a good place to start as all dogs are titled, health tested and previous dogs in line adhere to strict height and weight standards. My dog weighs about 115lbs and is 19months old so might get to 120 or stay at this weight and is 26inchs tall. Standard is between 50 and 60kg for males 110-130lbs approx with most reaching no more than 120ish. I wasnt condoning giant Rottweilers, they are a working breed and should be able to work im a variety of fields eg IPO and thats why i went for the line i did. However Its a matter of choice, some people want the giant wet look and wheres theres demand, people supply. We can advise what is healthy for the breed but cannot police it. People will do what they want to do. My last male was way under standard, ive no issues admitting that, i am aware he wouldnt have met the show criteria but was a great dog all the same
That will break our heart. Mommy absolutely loves him, so do I, but he's definitely her dog because she's with him all day. I know everyone here loves Rotts and they all want the best for Tyson as well.
Bruno von der Obersten | California Rottweiler Breeder | Rotts | Tysons Grandpa, he looks just like him. I was told he weighed 165lbs. We put Tyson on diet dog food "Blue Buffalo" 2 months ago and we feel he's lost 10-15. We'll know soon enough when he goes to the Vet in two weeks.

I have his akc I didnt buy the dog to show, I didnt buy the dog to compare to others. I know his weight, i know big dogs die young he'll be wighed in two weeks at the Vet. Tyson is the worlds BEST Rott because he is ours. Other than starving the dog how exactly do i get him slimer? He walks 18miles/week he fetvhes 400 chuck its a week average 30 to 40 yards full sprint he eats Blue Buffalo weight m,anagement, hes NEVER had any human food, never a scrap, nothing. When he was younger we gave him healthy treats during training and now he gets none for walking my wife says no treats at all during the day. So what do we do differently?Brun

Obviously the breeder I bought from' Rott's are on the extreme large scale size. It doesnt matter to me because we love Tyson, wouldn't change a thing about him, wouldnt change a thing about how we raise him because we are doing everything right. Our step daughter just put down her 11 yr old 135lb bitch, Daisy who was an absolute Gem and they are heart broken, Tyson makes daisy look like a pug. That's the problem when "breeders" start breeding out of standard. If you love the breed and everything that makes it a great breed you want a Rottweiler. It only takes a generation or two of breeding dogs out of standard with poor health and temperament to end up with a dog that is no longer what makes a Rottweiler. I choose to support and give me money to breeders that are ethical and breed to the standard of the breed and love the breed the way it's suppose to look and behave. If I want a Mastiff I will buy a Mastiff from a breeder that breeds Mastiffs. If I don't care if my dog looks like a Rottweiler or even looks purebred I will adopt a rescue. I have had many rescues that were very much loved. BYB's are not going to make money from me. If you love the breed, support breeders that do things right.
AGREED ABOUT DOING THE bREED RIGHT. tYSON IS A 100% gERMAN rOTT, ONE OF THE REPLIES COMES FROM A GUY WHO SAYS THE PURE GERMAN DOGS ARE THIS SIZE.
