Should I be concerned?

I have a quick question,

i live alone with my 2 year old male. and he has always let everyone in my house without aproblem, very friendly towards everyone. he usually smells them somtime's gets a little pushing and wants to be petted but i have never had an agression problem ever!! until recently i had a delivery man come to my door with a package.. it wasn't till thenthat i noticed a total change in chance... chance lunged at the door pratically knocked me over trying to get to him... he never snapped or barked at the man.. but sat on my feet and pushed me back and growled like i have never heard a dog growl before teeth bared and all.. it kinda scared me.... now i know adog can sense things and i don't think i let off any signals of being worried or cautious of the man... is this something i should of punished him for or did he just fear the man.. and as soon as the delivery man left everythign was fine. i have hadmany delivery's at my door before, but this was the first time for such a reaction.. is he gonna start doing this all the time, i don't want to have to deal with this, with everyone. and he doesn't since even with other people he doesn't know. Is this something i can change or stop or prevent from happening? i have never worried about him biting anyone but i wasn't sure what was gonna happen if that guy stepped another foot closer..

HELP, concerned or not???

Just wait till he is 3 ..... My boy is like 3 now ... and have wanted to post a ( growing up ) thread ... People he has played with for all his life .... If they even RAISE their voice at me ..... HOLD him ..... Yes he will get more and more protective ..... I live alone with mine aswell and i am sure you treat him like i treat my boy .... Another thing i found out just recently ..... I always wondered ( cause he is SO FREINDLY ) if anyone could steal him or call him away ...... I was asleep in a chair at someones house and was woke to a commotion he was beside himself wiggling and whining ..... I herd a friendly voice coaxing him to go riding in the car ..... Well with one nod of my head he was gone .... But he woke me wasnt gonna leave my side strange place i was asleep ...... SO yeah the next year you gotta watch everything .... Between 2 & 3 he will thicken up chest will fill out and GROW up mentaly ..... so hang on
......

Dont be worried he is doing his job .... Just beaware and one step ahead of him ...

I had him in the car and someone was talking to me ( fine right ) well the poor old man started to walk away and fell ... while falling he reach for the car simply to break his fall ..... WELL almost lost an arm ...

Just keep working with him and socializing him and you will not need to worry about him getting along ..... These dogs are naturaly loyal and capable of protecting ..... They say they will fight to the death protecting their owners or property ...

" GOOD LUCK " sounds like you gotta good boy there .....

dont try to break him of anything just beaware and tell him whats freindly or say nothing and let him scare away what threatens him .... once in awhile someone Sampson likes will have something in there hand and he will be on me not pushing but making sure he cant get any closer ..... So you can never tell someone that dog grew up with may get teeth and growl if he even thinks your in danger ...

Enjoy you own a ROTTWIELER ...... # 1 dog

Barcurdan is right about the boys he's not mentality grown yet.I always thank my Rotts when they bark at the door to let me know someone is there, then I tell then it's ok cause thats their job to protect and let me know when someone is here. He's coming into his own now , like Barcurdan said ... HOLD ON ..... I have found as they get older that they do mellow at least mine have around 5 or so ....so you got acouple of yrs yet !
I used to have a ups man that my Kitty grew up with delivering packages to me , she just loved him ! She knew the sound of the truck coming and would let me know he was here , when I would open the door she would love him to pieces and even would jump in his truck ! He retired and I got a new guy he knocks and leaves very fast
even though she has met him and been nothing but friendly . Then when he found out I rescued a male and he saw him nowhe doesn't even knock ! ( and he has 2 pit bulls ) go figure !!!Now on the other hand when I'm in my carKitty is a monster ! don't even come with in 3 feet she wants to take out the windows ! showing her teeth and barking like a mad dog ! then theres my Zeus you could steal my car with him in it ! He's 7 and doesn't care as long as he's going for a ride ! A dog will tell you with his body lanuage whats going on in his head , but it sounds like he is just doing his job !

May be Chance senced something about this guy that he did not like.

All Rottweilers have different levels of protection. Some will let anyone in and some won't even let people come down the drive way with out haveing a fit.

After he has let you know someone is there thank him and have him sit and not interact with the person at the door.Do not allow any growling as it will get worse. He is doing his job,but don't let him control the situation.

And All Rottweiler owners should never think that there dog will not bite anyone. They are big dogs (dogs)who react different then we do.There is always the potintional for a bite.I am always watching my dogs when people are around. Not that I think they are going to bite, but I know that they can.

Protect your dog from the public and the public from your dog.

Yeah they will act differently if they think there might be danger. Like they said maybe there wasn't something right with that delivery guy. My Bud loves to go for a ride but he is a monster also if anyone gets near the car but if I take him out of the car anyone can come over and pet him NO PROBLEM but he gets back in the car and the same people still can't get near it. Now Diamond hasn't had any problems with any one yet, But give her time.LOL she's still only 8 months old so she really hasn't even begun to come into her own. Just watch him love him and he should be all right.

Donna, Your notgoing to believe what the vet said ! It's just the color of his butt ! He said some are just a bit pinker then othersand that with age it will get darker , I never had a Rott with a butt that looks like his .....oh well first time for everything I guess
it put the pink in my face !!!!! I feel better though knowing that nothing is wrong with him just that he's a little shit !
It was his first ride today all by himself he did very well without his sister there. He weighs 65lbs.at 5 months ........

Yeah hopefully it will work for you and I can feel your pain(ok maybe not literally but spiritually) and I wouldn't wanna be wearing a splint either but if that's all you end up having to do then you'll be lucky and that's what we're hoping for you! So good luck with the shots and hope all goes well.
