Hi All,

I am a bit new here as I am feeling a little stuck on our big beautiful boy Odin. My husband and I are wondering if we are completely mad to try traveling from the UK --> Netherlands --> Belgium --> Germany --> Austria with our Rottweiler. I have checked and I think we can avoid states with breed specific legislation in Germany and Austria and we can get a dog friendly ferry from the U.K. I, do, however wonder if this is entirely biting off more than we can chew. Would we be able to possibly find any accommodation that would take us over night? If anyone has ever done anything similar that would be great to hear about your suggestions and experiences. We are mostly worried as he is such a large dog and we are worried about issues with his breed. We don't exactly want to be stopped at the border.

Please see a picture of us in Cornwall for reference.

Lots of thank yous!

Hi, we travelled to Marbella from Santander last winter with our 3 year old male rottweiler. We took him everywhere with us and walked him passed numerous Police officers. Not once were we stopped or challenged. Rottweilers are a banned breed in Spain. I'd say that its a matter of common sense, keep them under control and be responsible and you'll be fine. I'm just planning a trip across Belgium, Germany and CZECH. We were going into Poland but from what I've read on the internet, Rottweilers aren't allowed across the border. I've contacted a breeder over there asking advice.

Welcome to the forums! I'm not in the UK so cannot help. I think you really will need to plan your trip so that you know exactly where you want to stay overnight, each and every night. Make sure that the accommodations are 'dog friendly' and book ahead. Unless asked, I would just say that you have a 'big dog' that is well trained...I would not mention what breed you have when booking a room.

We have traveled all over Canada and the USA with our Rottweilers, and sometimes it was hard to find a place to stay overnight...but we always managed. There are websites that help you search for hotels/motels and Airbnb's that allow dogs and what size of dogs. We have one in Canada called www.bringfido.ca

Good luck in your travels!!
